Hello, Summer!

I feel like there’s lots of jokes about summer.

In Southern states, one may hear, “We have four seasons. Summer, summer, summer, and about two weeks of winter.”

In the Pacific Northwest and the Rockies Mountain states, one may hear, “We have four seasons. Winter, winter, winter, and road construction [read, summer].”

But people also love summer.

It gives a break from your routine. Whether you are in school or not, there is still a sense of freedom. As a child, you look forward to summer break where your days are endless and you can play outside from sun-up to sundown. As parents, you are given two months with your children and can more easily go on vacation without your kids missing school. School teachers and staff are counting down the days to when summer begins, ready to enjoy their well-deserved break.

Even if you do not have kids or work in a school, summer just feels different. There are summer activities around every corner, beckoning for you to join them. Like cook-outs, summer sales for vacations (day trips or long vacations), and pools opening.

Summer, like every season, brings new changes. It shifts your routine and daily activities. It brings new opportunities for you.

What are you looking forward to doing this summer? What new routines are you going to have?

This summer, although I work at a school, I am in the process of becoming a therapist and still have counseling sessions to do. So, I’ll be doing that for a couple days a week. But I also plan on taking care of myself too. I am going to see some family this summer and catch up with friends. In fact, I just saw the Broadway musical’s The Lion King with friends and let me tell you, there is a reason why it is referred to as the number one hit Broadway musical. The artistry and puppetry was incredible. All in all, I am looking forward to summer and just rest before I head back into the next school year.
