Birds sing, flowers begin to bloom, and the sun seems to shine brighter. Spring is my most favorite season. There are so many symbols of new life and change in spring. A landscape that has been cold, dry, and dead now springs to life — bursting with new textures, colors, and sounds. We use bright colors that reflect what’s taking shape in creation. Even though I can’t see the colors, I can imagine them, and I’m so here for it!
After the wonder of Christmas, I’m done with winter and imagining the warm glow of spring. In preparation for my first craft fair selling my pottery, I sat down at the wheel at the end of February to make bowls, which I shaped into flowers. I’m taking advantage of the bright hues of spring and Mother’s Day coming up to make things people could give as gifts or buy for themselves.
My mind seems brighter in spring, and my inspiration and productivity double. I love sitting outside listening to the birds and feeling the warm breeze. I love finding sunny spots to write or study the Bible in the mornings.
Okay, so as you can tell, I really love spring. I think we should celebrate the fact that spring is here! We should also celebrate the joys in our lives and the blessings God has given us.
Can you think of a valley God has brought you through recently? Maybe you’re still in that valley now. Maybe, as the flowers grow and the sun shines, you long for that same transformation in your own life. Wherever you are now, can you think of a valley that God has taken you through?
God has given us such clear evidence of His faithfulness to bring us through our hardships and work things together for our good and His glory. To me, spring is a reminder that God is sovereign over the seasons of my life just as He is over the seasons of creation.
God ordained the winter for the ground to freeze and vegetation to die. There’s so much value in that season, even though it can be bitterly cold and miserable at the time. God is also sovereign over your heartache and grief—the loss of a loved one, your infertility, your home being destroyed, your strained relationship, your empty bank account, your loneliness, your fear. They are no surprise to God, and He is actively working in that season of darkness.
Then, just as God ordained the warming temperatures, singing birds, and new growth, He also ordained the breakthroughs and victories in your life. God hears all our prayers and is as active in our lives as He is in the changing of the seasons.
I’ll end with one of my favorite verses:
“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.” Psalm 19:1 KJV
Each little bird in the sky is singing a song of praise unto the Lord. I like to think that even the flowers and trees are giving glory to God. The bright, sunny sky shows the majesty and glory of God just like the dark and stormy one. Each season brings glory to God and fulfills its purpose. That makes me trust Him more. That makes me eager to see what He has for me next. Happy spring!!
