Spring is here. If you live somewhere with snow, hopefully the snow is melting and new flowers are ready to bloom. I love the visualization that spring gives us about new life after the darkness that winter brought. It is such a great representation of the new life that we have in Christ after being born into and living in darkness. As I think I have said before, I don’t have a favorite season. I think my favorite “season” is the beginning of each season when the weather and the vibe of the people around me start changing.
I love it that Easter is celebrated in the spring. We get to celebrate Jesus coming back to life at the same time as the world around us is coming back to life. We often say around Christmastime that Jesus is the reason for the season, but in reality, Jesus is the reason for every season and Easter is a good reminder of that.
With spring comes daylight savings for most of the country, which means the sun sets later in the evenings. I really like that because it means that it’s still light out when I get off work and it feels like I still have more of my day so I can do other things before it gets too late and I am ready to settle down for the night. It is one step closer to the longer days of summer and the warmer evenings and nights.
What are your favorite things to do in the spring? I know that some of my family members have been planning for this for months because now is the time to start planting many of the vegetables that they will have in their garden this year. Maybe you are a big fan of spring cleaning, going through what you have accumulated over the past year and/or doing a deep clean of your home. Or maybe you have been itching to get outside without needing to wear so many layers and you are spending as much time outside as possible or planning your next trip somewhere with lots of nature. Or if you are a student or work in a school, spring is one step closer to summer and freedom.
If you are a student and finishing up your program or degree, you may be feeling some senioritis. That may be one of the worst feelings when in school, some may even say it’s worse than having to do homework when you are sick. It can be so easy to lose motivation when you know you are so close to being done, but coming from someone who has been there, I want to encourage you to keep going. Maybe you need to arrange some study groups or schedule out your time better. Whatever the case, remember that there is an end date and once you are done and graduated, you will be glad you pushed through and did your best.
If you are the kind of person who likes to do spring cleaning, what is your favorite way to do that? Do you like to use the Marie Kondo method and just throw out anything that does not bring you joy? Do you get rid of duplicates or try to keep a capsule wardrobe? Do you donate and throw away what you don’t want or do you have yard sales to try to make a little bit of money back?
Are you super into gardening like some of my family? I love the concept of gardening and growing my own food and herbs and I have lots of respect for the people who do it. I think for me, though, it would be one of those hobbies where I would get super invested and buy all of the tools just to not follow through on it. I know there are so many benefits to having a garden and taking care of it, but I also know myself and without accountability, either I would end up with a bunch of unplanted seeds or I would plant them and then stop going out to check on and water them. If you are a gardener, what are some of your favorite things to plant? Do you mainly plant food or flowers and “pretty” plants? I would love to know! And if you have any tips for starting a garden and staying consistent in taking care of it, let me know!
If you are big into getting outside in nature, what is your favorite thing to do outside? Do you like going on hikes or do you prefer organized sports or games? Do you like just sitting in the sun or would you rather go on a run? Do you like having picnics or do you want to go to an amusement park and ride rollercoasters? Or if you live close to a beach, do you prefer sitting on the sand or going in the water?
As we start spring this year, I hope that it is a peaceful season for you full of your favorite spring activities!
