I have to be honest and say that I don’t have any answers when it comes to unity. The last week has definitely proven that, and truthfully, I’m exhausted. I don’t have the answers for our country, for my family, or for my friendships. I do know however, that God does.
What He says in the Bible is absolutely true. God uses His Word to teach and guide us and He promises that He will be with us always, no matter what happens. I also know that God, through His Spirit, comforts us when we are brokenhearted, brings us joy and hope, gives us wisdom, calls us for a purpose, and so much more. God is our best and sweetest friend, and we can come to Him with anything.
He is also the source of unity and love, not only for us but for our leaders. With that in mind, I can only suggest one thing. Pray for unity. Let’s pray for our friends and family. Let’s pray for the people who are different from us in political opinion and beliefs. Most importantly, let’s pray for our nation.
I’m not sure how the election turned out for you. Maybe you’re hopeful or maybe you’re angry. Either way, we should pray for our leaders and those in office. We should pray for those finishing their terms and those about to start new terms. God has allowed them to come into office at this time for a certain purpose. He is not surprised by anything and He works all things together for our good and His glory.
We should pray for their protection and safety. We should pray that God will guide them and give them wisdom. We should pray for peace in our own hearts. So, since I’m at a loss for words this week with everything going on personally in my life, and in the whole world, let’s do that now. When I don’t know what to do or say, talking to Jesus is where to start and finish.
Holy and Precious Lord,
You are King of kings, and the highest authority. We know you are in control of everything that happens in this world. Nothing surprises you and you’ve had a plan from the beginning of time. Help us to be comforted by the fact that you hold the whole world in your hands. Thank you for the privilege of casting a ballot and getting to be part of making decisions for our country. I pray that we will always have that freedom.
Right now, we pray for the leaders that have been selected to run our country. We pray for President Biden as he ends his term and President Trump as he begins a new one. We ask you to be with them and help them have a smooth transition of power. We pray the same for vice presidents, senators, governors, judges and all other political offices right down to town officials. I pray first of all that they would come to know you as their Savior, and then that you would guide their decisions and direct their paths. Your wisdom is greater than any other, so I pray they would hear your wisdom in each decision. I pray that there would be more unity between political leaders and us as people. Could you please show us how to be unified as much as possible?
But, I also know Lord that we are living in a fallen world, and that we are not promised an easy life. Peace in our world will not always be possible, so I pray for peace in the hearts and minds of those who put their trust in you, and that others would learn to trust you also.
Help us to continually come to you to intercede on behalf of our leaders and our country. Help us to be confident in who You are and what You’re doing in our nation and beyond.
Thank you for being with us and hearing our prayers.
In Jesus name, Amen.
